Trump Unveils Boeing-Built Sixth-Gen Fighter Jet to Revolutionize U.S. Air Power

President Donald Trump revealed a game-changing decision from the Pentagon on Friday. Alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in the Oval Office, he introduced the F-47—a sixth-generation fighter jet.

“This is the world’s first sixth-generation fighter,” Trump declared. “Nothing comes close. It’s called the F-47, and I directed the Air Force to make it happen.”

Boeing snagged the contract for this cutting-edge aircraft. Trump boasted that an experimental F-47 has been soaring for nearly five years. Back in his first term, the Air Force confirmed flying a full-scale prototype.

“After a fierce competition among top aerospace giants, Boeing won,” Trump said. “This is next-level air dominance.”

Previously dubbed Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD), Trump renamed it F-47—nodding to his presidency. “It’s unlike anything ever seen,” he added. “Years in the making.”

The F-47 will team up with unmanned drones—a military priority. Trump explained, “It flies with drones. Lots of them. No other plane does that. It’s new tech, and it’s incredible.”

Despite the Air Force picking Boeing, Trump’s praise raised eyebrows. He’s slammed the company before—especially over Air Force One delays. “Boeing’s still working on that plane,” he quipped last month. “If they’d just finish it!”

Boeing’s KC-46 tanker program also lags—seven years behind schedule, per the GAO. Yet, Boeing’s legacy shines: B-17s, B-29s, and B-52s defined U.S. air power for decades. Today, it builds the F-15EX and F/A-18 Super Hornet.

Last year, the Air Force paused the sixth-gen fighter decision. In December, then-Secretary Frank Kendall left it to Trump’s team. The F-47 aims to outclass the troubled F-35, a Lockheed Martin jet plagued by delays and a $2 trillion price tag—far beyond its original $200 billion estimate.

Elon Musk has trashed the F-35, pushing drone swarms instead. “Manned jets are obsolete,” he posted in November. Trump’s F-47, though, blends both worlds—pilots and drones together.
