6 Lives Lost as Blizzards and Powerful Storms Sweep Through

A powerful March storm has left a trail of destruction across the United States, claiming six lives and disrupting millions as blizzards, high winds, and tornadoes battered the Great Plains and the South. Authorities confirmed three deaths in Nebraska and three in Mississippi, with the storm continuing to pose risks as it moves eastward.

Nebraska: Blizzards and Deadly Crashes
In Nebraska, severe winter weather led to a tragic head-on collision between a car and a tractor-trailer, killing three people. The Nebraska State Patrol reported over 300 weather-related traffic incidents as blizzards and icy conditions gripped the state.

Mississippi: High Winds Turn Deadly
In Mississippi, high winds caused chaos, resulting in three fatalities. One man was electrocuted while trying to extinguish a grass fire sparked by a downed power line. A woman died when a tree limb fell on her, and another man lost his life after a tree collapsed onto his vehicle on the Natchez Trace. Six others were injured, according to Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves.

Millions Under Threat as Storm Moves East
The storm, fueled by a major low-pressure system, has placed over 108 million people under high wind advisories and warnings, stretching from Texas to Michigan and North Carolina. While many advisories have expired, the storm’s impact continues to be felt.

In Texas, an EF-1 tornado with winds up to 110 mph tore through Lewisville, damaging a warehouse and leaving residents shaken. “I heard this really loud, extreme noise, and there was a little tiny tornado throwing debris everywhere,” said eyewitness Joseph Kelly. “It was literally behind my truck.”

High winds also toppled mobile homes in Camp County, Texas, with two people rescued from the wreckage.

East Coast Braces for Rain and Thunderstorms
As the storm moves toward the Great Lakes and southern Quebec, the East Coast is bracing for heavy rain and thunderstorms. New York City and upstate areas are already experiencing soaking showers, which, while disruptive, are helping alleviate lingering drought conditions.

Meanwhile, California is facing its own weather challenges, with rain soaking Los Angeles and heavy snowfall expected in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Forecasters predict 10 to 20 inches of new snow in higher elevations through Thursday night.

A Storm of Contrasts
While the storm has brought tragedy and disruption, it’s also delivering much-needed rain to drought-stricken regions. However, for the millions affected by its fury, the focus remains on safety and recovery as the system continues its march across the country.
