Goldberg Confirms He’s Cleared for a 2025 WWE Retirement Match, Eager to Wrap His Hands Around Cena’s Throat!
Bill Goldberg isn’t done yet—and he’s got a fire in his gut that’s been burning since his last WWE clash. The wrestling legend, a multi-time world champion and WWE Hall of Famer, hasn’t stepped into the ring since Roman Reigns took him down at the 2022 Elimination Chamber in Saudi Arabia. That loss left a bitter taste, and at 58, Goldberg’s hungry for one last fight to go out on his terms. On Wednesday’s Uncrowned “Ariel Helwani Show,” he dropped a bombshell: WWE has promised him a retirement match in 2025, and he’s guaranteeing it happens.
“I took the Roman match on a month’s notice with COVID—it wasn’t my choice to go out like that,” Goldberg growled. “Not in Saudi Arabia, where my fans couldn’t even be there to see it live. I’ve always wanted to leave them with something better. [WWE CCO] Paul Levesque and I talked it out—2025 is my year. No date, no opponent yet, but it’s coming. Wrestling’s full of twists, so who knows what’s up their sleeve?”
A Legend’s Last Stand
Goldberg’s no stranger to WWE’s spotlight. After his first run from 2003-2004, he stormed back in 2016, becoming a larger-than-life figure for dream matches. But since that 2022 loss, he’s been a ghost—until October’s Bad Blood 2024 in his hometown of Atlanta. There, he popped up in the crowd, and sparks flew when he crossed paths with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. Nothing’s official, but the tension’s real.
“Gunther? There’s heat there,” Goldberg admitted. “They laid the groundwork in Atlanta. I wouldn’t mind it—he’s the new blood, I’m the old guard. It’d feel like passing the torch. Plus, you don’t trash-talk me in front of my wife and son and walk away clean.”
WCW Roots, WWE Dreams
Goldberg’s legacy was forged in the ‘90s as WCW’s unstoppable force, and he still carries that pride—and a chip on his shoulder. “I’m a WCW guy at heart,” he said. “Back then, we traded blows with WWE like heavyweights. They were the enemy—I was a football player, and that’s how I saw it. Even now, there’s still a little of that stink. Look at how they handled Sting.”
He’s not blind to WWE’s priorities either. “They’re pushing the John Cena farewell tour,” he mused. “If I get a shot, I’ll drop in, do my thing, and bounce. But I’ll always be that WCW warrior.”
Who’s Next?
Gunther’s a solid pick—reigning as champion and heading into WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas as a 37-year-old phenom. But Goldberg’s got other names dancing in his head. “I never got my hands around Cena’s throat—that’d be sweet,” he said with a grin. “Or a rematch with Roman. Guys like Bron Breakker? They’re hungry, talented, and right on the edge of stardom. It’s up to the suits, but I’ve got options.”
One Last Memory
For Goldberg, this isn’t just about a paycheck—it’s personal. “Some fans don’t even know me anymore,” he said. “Others talk smack because they don’t get it—I was an innovator. In 2025, I’m showing up to remind them who I am. Yeah, I’ve got some physical limits now, but I’ll leave them with a damn good memory—not a whimper.”
Goldberg’s last ride is coming, and whether it’s Gunther, Cena, or a curveball, he’s ready to spear his way into history. “We’ll figure it out,” he promised. “And when it’s over, you’ll frickin’ remember me.”
