Victor Wembanyama’s 52-Point, 24-Rebound Night Lifts Spurs Past Mavericks

Victor Wembanyama delivered a career-best 52 points and 24 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs edged the Dallas Mavericks 112-111 on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to six games.
The Spurs appeared in control after building a 19-point lead early in the third quarter, but Dallas rallied and briefly moved ahead late in the game. The teams traded the lead in the closing minutes, and Wembanyama put San Antonio back in front by making a free throw with 24.2 seconds left.
Dallas had one last chance, but Kyrie Irving’s contested turnaround jumper missed with 2.5 seconds remaining. Irving led the Mavericks with 29 points. San Antonio’s Dylan Harper added 21, while Stephon Castle scored 17.
Wembanyama also blocked eight shots. He had 29 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks by halftime, a first-half statistical combination not recorded by any player in the play-by-play era, according to the Associated Press. His overall line made the night one of the season’s most remarkable individual performances so far.
The result lifted San Antonio to 6-2 and left Dallas at 4-4 after its second consecutive loss. The teams meet again later in the season, but Wednesday’s finish showed how quickly the matchup can turn: Dallas erased most of a large deficit before Wembanyama’s late free throw settled a one-point game.
