Carlos Alcaraz saved two match points and rallied past Taylor Fritz to reach the Paris Masters semifinals for the first time. The world No. 2 won 6-7 (10), 7-5, 6-3 in Friday’s quarterfinal in Paris, according to Reuters and Yahoo’s coverage of the match.

Fritz came within a point of closing out the contest but could not convert either opportunity. Alcaraz recovered in the second set, then moved ahead in the deciding set to finish the comeback.

The result ends Fritz’s chance to secure the final place at the season-ending ATP Finals through the Paris tournament, Reuters reported. Spain’s Rafael Jódar is set to take that spot. Alcaraz will face either Casper Ruud or Nuno Borges in the semifinal.

The Paris Masters is the final major stop before the ATP Finals, which begin November 15. Alcaraz’s run gives him another opportunity to claim the indoor title as the season approaches its conclusion.
