Pope Leo Set for Argentina Arrival as Latin America Tour Continues

Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to arrive in Buenos Aires on Sunday afternoon, beginning the Argentina leg of a three-country Latin American journey that opened in Uruguay on Friday.
The Vatican’s published itinerary lists a farewell ceremony at Montevideo’s airport at 3:10 p.m. local time, a 3:30 p.m. flight to Buenos Aires and an official welcome at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery at 4:30 p.m. The schedule then calls for a visit to the Monument to General San Martín, a welcome ceremony at Casa Rosada and a meeting with Argentina’s president.
A three-day stop in Argentina
Leo is due to meet political leaders, civil society representatives and diplomats in Buenos Aires on Sunday evening. Monday’s program includes visits with residents and staff at a care institution in Claypole, a public Mass and meetings with university and religious communities, according to the Vatican program.
The Argentina visit is scheduled to continue in Córdoba on Tuesday, before the pope travels to Peru on Wednesday. The wider journey runs through Nov. 17 and includes stops in Uruguay, Argentina and Peru.
Associated Press reporting from Uruguay on Saturday described Leo’s first full day there, including a Mass in Paysandú and an evening prayer vigil in Montevideo. AP reported that Argentina is the next leg of the trip, which is due to conclude in Peru.
Why the visit draws attention
Argentina is the home country of Leo’s predecessor, Pope Francis, while Leo spent much of his missionary career in Peru. The tour therefore brings the pontiff to places tied both to the region’s Catholic life and to his own history, as the church seeks to maintain a public presence across countries with different religious landscapes.
