Shuri Sakuma Claims First LPGA Tour Title With Four-Shot TOTO Japan Classic Win

Japan’s Shuri Sakuma closed with an eight-under-par 64 to win the TOTO Japan Classic by four strokes Sunday, securing her first LPGA Tour title. She finished at 20-under 268 at Taiheiyo Club Minori Course in Omitama.
A closing-round surge
Sakuma began the final round behind Aki Iwai, who had led by one after 54 holes. Iwai shot a 71 and finished second at 16-under. Sakuma’s 64 turned the contest into a four-shot win and added an LPGA Tour title to the eight victories she had already earned on Japan’s tour.
The victory also makes Sakuma eligible to join the LPGA Tour. Erika Hara finished third at 15-under, while Yuna Araki and Thailand’s Arpichaya Yubol shared fourth at 14-under. Defending champion Nasa Hataoka tied for sixth.
The TOTO Japan Classic was the final stop of the LPGA’s late-season Asian swing. Sakuma’s four-round total of 268 was built from scores of 70, 65, 69 and 64.
