Alaska Senate and Governor Races Remain Uncalled as Ballot Count Continues

Alaska’s closely watched U.S. Senate and governor races remained unresolved Thursday as election officials continued counting ballots, leaving the state’s ranked-choice process to determine whether either contest will need another round.

Democrat Mary Peltola held a narrow preliminary lead over Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan in the Senate contest, according to the latest published tallies cited by The Associated Press and Reuters. Neither outlet had called the race. Alaska also accepts eligible overseas ballots for up to 15 days after Election Day, and officials have targeted Nov. 18 for ranked-choice tabulation.

The governor’s race is also awaiting additional votes. If no candidate clears 50% in either contest, Alaska’s ranked-choice system could extend the wait for a final outcome. The state’s election division says the ranked-choice results will not be available until Nov. 18, after eligible ballots have been reviewed and counted.

The uncertainty leaves Alaska among the last outstanding contests from the midterm elections. The reported numbers are preliminary and may change as remaining ballots are processed.
